One of my favorite former colleagues used to tell how her hobby is “Doing Nothing”. How can we do nothing? And is it a good thing to do nothing? As I resigned from CDL, this week I got some time to do nothing :p
All of man’s problems stem from his inability to sit alone in a room for any length of time — Blaise Pascal
As we have become productivity chasing animals, any activity feels like progress and inactivity feels like a slump. To escape from this guilt, we keep doing something. Rajan Singh wrote this interesting story on how we do meaningless things (sometimes harmful) to avoid the guilt. Sharing a small excerpt:
There was an urge to pickup some random thingjust to stay engaged. I’d to force myself to not do such things. It was not easy.
Internet blessed me with this Palki Sharma’s story on Niksen (Dutch concept of Doing Nothing). Do watch if this topic is of your interest, without any goal - that is what Niksen is all about. (“I Play to Play” - Amit Verma)
My Niksen had been petting Heera, walking, driving around, yoga.
My reel on Constitution got shortlisted for a special mention award in English language by the National Foundation for India. There will be an online announcement tomorrow on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanthi. At Lamakaan there will be a Preamble Printing event as well.
That’s it from me
Hope you also get to do nothing for sometime :)
